Elevator Hinges Continued - Stewart 51 Hangar

Today, work continues to continue on the elevator hinges. It seems like this work has been ongoing for a long long time and I’m eager to start to move forward on some new work. A bit of visual progress was made by getting the elevator ribs drilled and clecoed to the elevator spars, as shown in the pictures below.

This makes for some interesting building. — In this image, we are working to add the outer hinges to the elevator spar. The outer hinge bracket attaches to the forward side of the spar, which also is the attach point for the outer rib. This makes for some interesting building.

In order to get to this point my building partner Garet and I started by installing the hinges on the horizontal stabilizer back in Feb. 2016. It’s now 5 months later!

To ensure proper spacing of the hinge brackets we used a stack-up of washers. This worked really good!
